Over 300 people have been killed on city streets since 2017 — the same year Sacramento made its Vision Zero pledge to eliminate ALL traffic deaths by 2027.

That deadline is next year. And the city admitted it hasn’t significantly changed how it funds road safety.

Now a group called SaferSacStreets is pushing a half-cent sales tax increase for the November ballot. If it passes, the city’s rate goes from 8.75% to 9.25%, generating an estimated $70 to $75 million a year, split evenly between road repairs and transit improvements. Mayor Kevin McCarty is already on board.

But here’s the real question: should Sacramento get more of your money before it answers for the promise it already broke? 👇
